Miscellaneous Virginia documents [manuscript], 1795, 1868.

The collection contains a ship's manifest for the sloop "Peggy," William Broad, master, 1795 January 10, for a cargo of wheat, flour, beeswax, almonds [?] and butter, from the Port of Bermuda Hundred and City-Point to New York, N.Y., together with a document of the same date granting permission to proceed, both signed by R. Walker for Wi[llia?]m Heth Coll[ie]r. The collection also contains a printed document from O. Brown, Asst Commissioner, District of Virginia, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, to Governor H. H. Wells, 1868 December 17, reqeusting formal instructions for the County Clerks to receive the U.S. Registers of Marriages between colored persons maintained by the now discontinued Bureau. An attached sheet, 1868 December 23, instructs the County Clerks to receive the registers and safely keep the same for future reference, according to an Act of the General Assembly April 29, 1867.
